The highly perishable nature of raw and fresh diets can pose health risks from exposure to bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli, and listeria – and they require a lot of time, effort, and expense to store and serve safely. Traveling with a pooch on a raw or fresh diet can present considerable challenges, as can entrusting a pet-sitter to get thawing, feeding, and cleaning right in your absence. Dogs require a properly balanced diet, and raw diets can lack the variety dogs need to get their essential nutrients. Exposure to harmful bacteria can impact not only the health of your dog, but of the people in your home as well. As such, raw food is not recommended for homes with small children or anyone with an underdeveloped immune system.

By taking care of your dog's digestive system, you can do a lot to keep them healthy. They protect not just consumers, but safeguard the health of the animals we love. While AAFCO serves as a great baseline, our dry food recipes are formulated not only to meet the minimum standards, but to exceed them as well. All of our recipes are complete and balanced for dogs at all life stages, meaning they provide your dog the right amount of every nutrient they need daily.
We worked with board certified vet nutritionists to develop recipes that give your dog all the nutrients they need – and nothing they don’t. Grains are complex carbohydrates that provide energy through the delivery of important nutrients. We do not include corn or wheat in our recipes, but we do use high-quality and nutritious grains like brown rice and pearled barley to ensure that your dog is getting essential B vitamins, minerals, and fiber from every meal.
For most dogs, the secret to a successful switch is to gradually transition to their new food. Changes in your dog’s diet can disrupt their digestion, but their microbiome (a.k.a. the gut) will usually adjust in about seven to 10 days.
Here’s a guide to transitioning to Kismet:
Days 1 and 2: Feed them 25% Kismet and 75% their former food.
Days 3 and 4: Feed them 50% Kismet and 50% their former food. ​​​​​
Days 5 and 6: Feed them 75% Kismet and 25% their former food.
