Good Fit for Active Days

"With two dogs that spend a lot of time hiking and training, meals need to keep up without upsetting their stomachs. This food has been a pretty easy addition to the routine. The salmon seems to go over well, and the freeze-dried pieces definitely get their attention at mealtime. Digestion has stayed consistent, and their coats have been looking healthy too. It’s been a practical choice for dogs that are always ready to get outside."

Well, it’s hard to judge.

"Well, it’s hard to judge. Our dog is still being extremely picky and hard to feed. We have found that he likes it frozen right from the freezer but at this point, we are still hand feeding him almost everything. We’ve tried different bowls and different food. Thanks for being flexible and allowing him to try both flavors."

Food for All times

"For active dogs, having a food they consistently enjoy without upsetting their stomach is a big win. The salmon recipe caught my attention because it provides a solid protein source along with omega fats for skin and coat. The freeze-dried nugs also make meals a little more interesting without needing extra toppers. K1smet has been a convenient option to keep in the rotation, especially when sticking to a structured feeding routine. The prebiotics and probiotics are another plus for keeping digestion consistent during busy, active weeks."

Easy to Keep in the Routine

"Mealtime has been pretty straightforward with this one. The salmon formula is something my dogs actually look forward to, and the freeze-dried nugs add a nice bit of variety without making feeding complicated. The no-fridge storage is especially handy for camping and outdoor trips. Digestion has stayed consistent as well, which is always something I pay attention to when trying a new food. Overall, a convenient option for an active household."

Solid Choice for Active Dogs

"Keeping meals consistent matters when spending a lot of time outdoors with the dogs, and this has worked well in our routine. The salmon is a nice protein source, and the added prebiotics and probiotics seem to keep digestion fairly steady. The freeze-dried pieces are probably the favorite part since they add a little variety without needing to prepare anything extra. It’s been convenient for hikes and camping trips too, especially since there’s no need to refrigerate the bag."

Good Everyday Option

"The salmon-based recipe makes a nice option for active dogs, especially when you want a meal that also includes prebiotics and probiotics. The freeze-dried pieces add some variety to the bowl and can make mealtime more interesting without needing extra toppers. The salmon and added oils are also appealing for owners paying attention to skin and coat nutrition. Having a complete meal that can be stored without refrigeration makes it practical for everyday feeding or trips outdoors."

Why does your food for dogs include dry food and freeze-dried nugs?

Backed by decades of scientific research, dry food (a.k.a. kibble) is the simplest and safest way to ensure that your dog is getting all the nutrients they need in a complete and balanced diet. Developed by expert formulators and board certified vet nutritionists, our dry food recipes feature real animal protein as the first ingredient (no animal by-product meals ever), antioxidant rich superfoods, and pre and probiotics. But we wanted to go a step further, so we added freeze-dried meat and sweet potato nuggets (a.k.a. nugs) to every bag to enhance our food’s flavor and include even more protein. We call it adding extra to the ordinary.

Why should I choose dry food for my dog instead of raw or fresh?

The highly perishable nature of raw and fresh diets can pose health risks from exposure to bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli, and listeria – and they require a lot of time, effort, and expense to store and serve safely. Traveling with a pooch on a raw or fresh diet can present considerable challenges, as can entrusting a pet-sitter to get thawing, feeding, and cleaning right in your absence. Dogs require a properly balanced diet, and raw diets can lack the variety dogs need to get their essential nutrients. Exposure to harmful bacteria can impact not only the health of your dog, but of the people in your home as well. As such, raw food is not recommended for homes with small children or anyone with an underdeveloped immune system.

We kept all this in mind when developing our dry food formula. Our recipes were developed by expert formulators and board certified vet nutritionists to ensure your dog receives all the nutrients they need in a complete and balanced diet as safely and conveniently as possible. Our dry food also includes freeze-dried meat and sweet potato nugs for an extra boost of protein and flavor to appeal to even the pickiest of eaters.

Why does your food include pre and probiotics?

About 70% of the body's immune system is located within the gut – a cool science fact that’s true for both dogs and humans. By taking care of your dog's digestive system, you can do a lot to keep them healthy. Pre and probiotics work together to encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria that can improve digestion and help balance gut bacteria. Benefits include a stronger immune system, better digestive health – less constipation, diarrhea, and gas – improved energy levels, and skin and coat health. Our food has a minimum of 50 million CFUs (colony-forming units) per pound, more than enough for a happy gut (and great poops).

Do Kismet's recipes meet AAFCO standards?

Kismet’s recipes are vet-designed to meet AAFCO guidelines for all life stages.

AAFCO (the Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines and establishes regulations for the pet food industry, and sets standards for nutritional adequacy. They protect not just consumers, but safeguard the health of the animals we love. While AAFCO serves as a great baseline, our dry food recipes are formulated not only to meet the minimum standards, but to exceed them as well. All of our recipes are complete and balanced for dogs at all life stages, meaning they provide your dog the right amount of every nutrient they need daily.

Is your food grain free?

We worked with board certified vet nutritionists to develop recipes that give your dog all the nutrients they need – and nothing they don’t. Grains are complex carbohydrates that provide energy through the delivery of important nutrients. We do not include corn or wheat in our recipes, but we do use high-quality and nutritious grains like brown rice and pearled barley to ensure that your dog is getting essential B vitamins, minerals, and fiber from every meal.

How should I make the switch/transition to Kismet?

For most dogs, the secret to a successful switch is to gradually transition to their new food. Changes in your dog’s diet can disrupt their digestion, but their microbiome (a.k.a. the gut) will usually adjust in about seven to 10 days.

Here’s a guide to transitioning to Kismet:

Days 1 and 2: Feed them 25% Kismet and 75% their former food.

Days 3 and 4: Feed them 50% Kismet and 50% their former food.

Days 5 and 6: Feed them 75% Kismet and 25% their former food.

Days 7+: 100% Kismet!

Every dog is different however, so please see how your dog is doing, and transition more slowly if needed.

Is your food chicken-free?

Our Salmon & Brown Rice recipe contains no chicken. The protein comes from salmon, salmon meal, fish meal and beef, and the fat is canola oil rather than chicken fat. Our Chicken & Barley recipe does contain chicken, and it also contains turkey meal. Kismet is not a limited-ingredient, novel-protein or single-protein diet, so if your dog is managing a food sensitivity, read the full ingredient panel on the product page before you switch.

My dog avoids chicken. What about your treats?

Check the ingredient panel on each treat page. Our Slow Cooked Salmon Sticks and Slow Cooked Salmon Squares are named for salmon, and they do contain chicken.
