Calm Stomach before the Storm

"Switching foods can be a hassle when a dog has a sensitive stomach, but this one went pretty smoothly. Digestion stayed consistent, and there wasn’t the usual loose stool or stomach fuss during the transition. The salmon-based recipe was also a nice change from chicken-heavy foods. Good fit for an active dog that needs something simple and easy to tolerate."

No More Gut Walkers

"Finding food for a sensitive stomach can feel like surviving a few episodes of The Walking Dead! lots of trial and error before finding the right one. The chicken-free salmon recipe has been a solid fit here, and the probiotics seem to keep digestion from going full walker mode. The coat has stayed nice too, and meals have been pretty uneventful, which is exactly what you want. No drama, no zombie-level stomach issues, just a dog happily waiting for dinner."

— ZombiePaws (5/5)

Our dogs love it!!!

"We've got four dogs and they all loved it. I mixed it into their usual food as a little bonus on top, and we'll definitely be ordering more. We mostly feed salmon, and they enjoyed the sweet potato and beef too. We also picked up the salmon treats and they're a hit — love that the ingredient list is so minimal."

Skin & Stomach

"Chicken-free recipes have been useful for keeping meals simple when a dog has a sensitive stomach. This one has been easy to transition to, with steady digestion and no obvious stomach issues after meals. The salmon is also a nice protein change, and the coat has stayed soft and healthy-looking. Works well for an active dog that spends plenty of time outdoors."

— Pawscout (5/5)

Good Simple Switch

"Switching to a chicken-free food made a noticeable difference for us, especially with digestion. The salmon-based recipe has been easy to keep in the regular rotation, and the added probiotics are useful without having to pile on extra supplements. The dogs also seem to enjoy the taste, which makes meal changes much less of a battle. It’s been a practical option for keeping meals consistent while staying active outdoors."

— Siren012 (5/5)

Balance Dog Food

"Switching proteins can be tricky when a dog has a sensitive stomach, so keeping things gradual made a noticeable difference. This recipe was easy to work into meals and was well tolerated. The salmon also gives the food a different smell and flavor, which helped keep mealtime interesting. Digestion stayed pretty normal, and the chicken-free recipe was exactly what I was looking for."

— HoundBalance (5/5)

Majestic Treats

"For dogs with sensitive stomachs, keeping the diet consistent and avoiding unnecessary ingredients can make a big difference. A chicken-free salmon recipe like this makes sense when skin or digestion is also a concern. The salmon provides a solid protein source, while the probiotics and prebiotics are useful additions for keeping digestion steady. The dogs tend to do best when changes are gradual and meals stay simple, especially during periods of heavier training or activity."

Good Chicke-Free Choice

"Finding a food without chicken can be a hassle when you’re also trying to keep meals gentle on the stomach. The salmon-based recipe made sense for that reason, and the added probiotics are a nice bonus for regular digestion. The freeze-dried pieces also help keep meals interesting without having to add a bunch of extras. It’s been a straightforward option to keep in the feeding rotation."

How do I know if Kismet is right for my dog?

Kismet’s recipes are designed to meet the needs of dogs at all life stages, regardless of size or breed. We partnered with board certified vet nutritionists to develop a complete and balanced diet that provides high quality nutrition gentle enough for sensitive and allergic pups, while still satisfying athletic breeds. Our support team is happy to answer any questions you may have, and we also encourage you to check with your veterinarian should you have specific concerns.

We take our 100% satisfaction guaranteed promise seriously, so please contact support@kismetpets.com if Kismet isn’t the right fit for your pup.

Why does your food for dogs include dry food and freeze-dried nugs?

Backed by decades of scientific research, dry food (a.k.a. kibble) is the simplest and safest way to ensure that your dog is getting all the nutrients they need in a complete and balanced diet. Developed by expert formulators and board certified vet nutritionists, our dry food recipes feature real animal protein as the first ingredient (no animal by-product meals ever), antioxidant rich superfoods, and pre and probiotics. But we wanted to go a step further, so we added freeze-dried meat and sweet potato nuggets (a.k.a. nugs) to every bag to enhance our food’s flavor and include even more protein. We call it adding extra to the ordinary.

Why should I choose dry food for my dog instead of raw or fresh?

The highly perishable nature of raw and fresh diets can pose health risks from exposure to bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli, and listeria – and they require a lot of time, effort, and expense to store and serve safely. Traveling with a pooch on a raw or fresh diet can present considerable challenges, as can entrusting a pet-sitter to get thawing, feeding, and cleaning right in your absence. Dogs require a properly balanced diet, and raw diets can lack the variety dogs need to get their essential nutrients. Exposure to harmful bacteria can impact not only the health of your dog, but of the people in your home as well. As such, raw food is not recommended for homes with small children or anyone with an underdeveloped immune system.

We kept all this in mind when developing our dry food formula. Our recipes were developed by expert formulators and board certified vet nutritionists to ensure your dog receives all the nutrients they need in a complete and balanced diet as safely and conveniently as possible. Our dry food also includes freeze-dried meat and sweet potato nugs for an extra boost of protein and flavor to appeal to even the pickiest of eaters.

Why does your food include pre and probiotics?

About 70% of the body's immune system is located within the gut – a cool science fact that’s true for both dogs and humans. By taking care of your dog's digestive system, you can do a lot to keep them healthy. Pre and probiotics work together to encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria that can improve digestion and help balance gut bacteria. Benefits include a stronger immune system, better digestive health – less constipation, diarrhea, and gas – improved energy levels, and skin and coat health. Our food has a minimum of 50 million CFUs (colony-forming units) per pound, more than enough for a happy gut (and great poops).

Do Kismet's recipes meet AAFCO standards?

Kismet’s recipes are vet-designed to meet AAFCO guidelines for all life stages.

AAFCO (the Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines and establishes regulations for the pet food industry, and sets standards for nutritional adequacy. They protect not just consumers, but safeguard the health of the animals we love. While AAFCO serves as a great baseline, our dry food recipes are formulated not only to meet the minimum standards, but to exceed them as well. All of our recipes are complete and balanced for dogs at all life stages, meaning they provide your dog the right amount of every nutrient they need daily.

Is your food grain free?

We worked with board certified vet nutritionists to develop recipes that give your dog all the nutrients they need – and nothing they don’t. Grains are complex carbohydrates that provide energy through the delivery of important nutrients. We do not include corn or wheat in our recipes, but we do use high-quality and nutritious grains like brown rice and pearled barley to ensure that your dog is getting essential B vitamins, minerals, and fiber from every meal.

How should I make the switch/transition to Kismet?

For most dogs, the secret to a successful switch is to gradually transition to their new food. Changes in your dog’s diet can disrupt their digestion, but their microbiome (a.k.a. the gut) will usually adjust in about seven to 10 days.

Here’s a guide to transitioning to Kismet:

Days 1 and 2: Feed them 25% Kismet and 75% their former food.

Days 3 and 4: Feed them 50% Kismet and 50% their former food.

Days 5 and 6: Feed them 75% Kismet and 25% their former food.

Days 7+: 100% Kismet!

Every dog is different however, so please see how your dog is doing, and transition more slowly if needed.

Is your food chicken-free?

Our Salmon & Brown Rice recipe contains no chicken. The protein comes from salmon, salmon meal, fish meal and beef, and the fat is canola oil rather than chicken fat. Our Chicken & Barley recipe does contain chicken, and it also contains turkey meal. Kismet is not a limited-ingredient, novel-protein or single-protein diet, so if your dog is managing a food sensitivity, read the full ingredient panel on the product page before you switch.

My dog avoids chicken. What about your treats?

Check the ingredient panel on each treat page. Our Slow Cooked Salmon Sticks and Slow Cooked Salmon Squares are named for salmon, and they do contain chicken.
