Dr. Kwane's Tips for the Fourth of July
"When it comes to keeping your pet safe on the Fourth of July, I always distill my advice down to one thing: Know your dog."
It really is common sense. Know the needs of your dog, and don't press the limits. If your dog doesn't know how to swim or isn't a good swimmer, I wouldn't go to the pool party or the beach on the Fourth of July. If your dog isn't great around other dogs or a lot of people, don't bring them to a party or large gathering. This holiday is not the time to experiment or push their limits.
As for fireworks, if your dog is deathly afraid of them, I recommend staying home and comforting them. Provide treats, food puzzles, or other distractions – maybe put on a movie. But, most importantly, stay close to them. That's the best thing you can do.
