Why are you named Kismet?
Because we believe you and your dog were made for each other. Your bond isn’t a stroke of luck or a random coincidence – it’s something bigger. It’s Kismet.
Do Chrissy and John own the brand?
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are co-founders and owners of the brand.
What is Dr. Kwane’s role in the business?
Dr. Kwane Stewart is the Chief Veterinary Officer at Kismet. With over two decades of experience in veterinary medicine and a recognized commitment to animal welfare, his leadership is instrumental in guiding Kismet’s product development and ensuring the highest standards of pet health and nutrition.
Dr. Kwane was named 2023 CNN Hero of the Year in honor of his work founding and operating Project Street Vet, a non-profit that provides medical care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness. Since starting Project Street Vet in 2020, he and his volunteer teams have treated thousands of animals while giving their human parents hope and dignity, too – aligning with Kismet’s mission and brand ethos.
Does Kismet partner with anyone to give back?
Yes. Every sale benefits a dog in need and goes toward our beneficiaries: Project Street Vet and Paws for Life.
Project Street Vet is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit public charity that provides free veterinary care, treatment, and support to the pets of individuals experiencing homelessness and/or housing vulnerability. Project Street Vet was founded by Kismet’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Kwane Stewart, who for the past decade has provided free veterinary care to pets of people experiencing homelessness – often personally walking areas of high homelessness to seek pets and pet parents in need.
Paws for Life is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit public organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating dogs from high-kill shelters. The organization aims to give these animals a second chance at life by providing them with medical care, training, and fostering until they can be placed in loving forever homes through adoption. The Paws for Life Prison Program relieves overcrowded shelters by sending dogs to prisons for training and socialization, increasing their chances of successful adoption. This hallmark program evolved to include training service dogs for military veterans with PTSD, first responders in California Fire departments, children with autism, victims of violent crimes, and youth who have been victims of school shootings.
Recognizing the transformative power of dogs as companions and rehabilitation partners, we are committed to programs rooted in the belief that every individual – regardless of past struggles – deserves a chance at redemption.

Why does your food for dogs include dry food and freeze-dried nugs?
We wanted to develop a food for dogs that's every bit as nutritious as fresh, but more convenient and accessibly priced.
Backed by decades of scientific research, dry food (a.k.a. kibble) is the simplest and safest way to ensure that your dog is getting all the nutrients they need in a complete and balanced diet. Developed by expert formulators and board certified vet nutritionists, our dry food recipes feature real animal protein as the first ingredient (no animal by-product meals ever), antioxidant rich superfoods, and pre and probiotics. But we wanted to go a step further, so we added freeze-dried chicken or beef and sweet potato nuggets (a.k.a. nugs) to every bag to enhance our food’s flavor and include even more protein. We call it adding extra to the ordinary.
Why should I choose dry food for my dog instead of raw or fresh?
Safety and convenience. The highly perishable nature of raw and fresh diets can pose health risks from exposure to bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli, and listeria – and they require a lot of time, effort, and expense to store and serve safely. Traveling with a dog on a raw or fresh diet can present considerable challenges, as can entrusting a pet-sitter to get thawing, feeding, and cleaning right in your absence. Dogs require a properly balanced diet, and raw diets can lack the variety dogs need to get their essential nutrients. Exposure to harmful bacteria can impact not only the health of your dog, but of the people in your home as well. As such, raw food is not recommended for homes with small children or anyone with an underdeveloped immune system. We kept all this in mind when developing our dry food formula. Our recipes were developed by expert formulators and board certified vet nutritionists to ensure your dog receives all the nutrients they need in a complete and balanced diet as safely and conveniently as possible. Our dry food also includes freeze-dried chicken or beef and sweet potato nugs for an extra boost of protein and flavor to appeal to even the pickiest of eaters. This isn’t kibble, it’s Kismet.
Why does your food include pre and probiotics?
About 70% of the body's immune system is located within the gut – a cool science fact that’s true for both dogs and humans. By taking care of your dog's digestive system, you can do a lot to keep them healthy. Pre and probiotics work together to encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria that can improve digestion and help balance gut bacteria. Benefits include a stronger immune system, better digestive health – less constipation, diarrhea, and gas – improved energy levels, and skin and coat health. Our food has a minimum of 50 million CFUs (colony-forming units) per pound, more than enough for a happy gut (and great poops).
Do Kismet's recipes meet AAFCO standards?
Kismet’s recipes are vet-designed to meet AAFCO guidelines for all life stages.
AAFCO (the Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines and establishes regulations for the pet food industry, and sets standards for nutritional adequacy. They protect not just consumers, but safeguard the health of the animals we love. While AAFCO serves as a great baseline, our dry food recipes are formulated not only to meet the minimum standards, but to exceed them as well. All of our recipes are complete and balanced for dogs at all life stages, meaning they provide your dog the right amount of every nutrient they need daily.
